Michael Cotugno, B.S., Pharm., R.Ph., Director of Pharmacy Patient Care Services, Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Michael is currently the Director of Pharmacy Patient Care Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston, MA.
Michael received his B.S. in Pharmacy from Northeastern University in 1991. He has worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for 30 years holding positions as a clinical pharmacist, pharmacy supervisor and clinical manager prior to becoming Director of Pharmacy Patient Care Services.
Michael has been part of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital decision and implementation teams that have directed computerized physician order entry, use of automated-dispensing cabinets, barcode scanning technology, the electronic medication administration record, medication reconciliation, disaster planning, Joint Commission compliance, controlled substance compliance and auditing, USP 797 compliance, robotically prepared sterile products, and support of the institution’s hospital at home program.
Michael has published articles related to the implementation of robotics equipment, management of drug shortages and sterile compounding.
He serves on several committees at BWH including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and the Drug Safety Committee. He was also part of the Special Commission on the Oversight of Compounding Pharmacies for Massachusetts appointed by the governor for Massachusetts.

Development of Pharmacy Services to Support Hospital at Home : The Acute Hospital Care at Home Program is a patient care model that expands acute-level care beyond hospital walls. It is imperative to integrate pharmacy services into the planning, implementation, and patient care management for hospital-at-home services. This session will discuss specific pharmacy services, implementing pharmacy services, and the challenges of supporting pharmacy services for a hospital at home program.
