GENERAL SESSION 5
Acute Hospital Care at Home, Now and Next: Perspectives from the Former CMS Chief Medical Officer

In November 2020, during an acute surge in COVID-19 cases, the hospital-at-home waiver was stood up by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and launched the Acute Hospital Care at Home (AHCAH) initiative to address the COVID-19 public health emergency and concerns about hospital bed capacity. This session will discuss the most recent data available from CMS. The CMS AHCAH initiative was extended through December 31, 2024 in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023. The law requires hospitals to provide additional data to CMS to monitor the quality of care, and for CMS to undertake a comprehensive study which will be discussed. Join former CMS Chief Medical Officer, Lee Fleisher for insights into the history of the waiver and how health systems can prepare for what may be coming next.
